Teaching Philosophy
My guiding principles to teaching
My desire to be a music educator is rooted in my foundational belief in the importance of music as a subject matter, the role music shapes in developing regimented self-discipline, and music’s influence on teamwork, group leadership, and self-esteem. I have experience with all of these effects from thoughtful educators who share my belief and thought to make the classroom not only a place to learn and perform music, but to encourage a mantra of inclusivity and kindness. Music educators, like many educators, play a unique role in directly shaping students' thought perceptions and music in particular highlights the need for independent growth. The role of a high quality music educator is to give students the tools that they in turn will use themselves. Music educators are the scaffolding that students use to develop and hone their musicianship leading to independence in their studies. Comprehensive development with differentiated instruction is the method I employ to foster growth of my students both as musicians and well rounded humans. The mission of my program is to create students who are musically literate, with a love and appreciation for all music, prepared upon graduation to pursue music as a consumer, a leisure activity, an avocation, or a career.
